Low Pressure Fitness

What is Low Pressure Fitness (hypopressive training)?

Low Pressure Fitness is a mind-body practice that blends the techniques of hypopressive breathing, myofascial stretching and neurodynamics.

The hypopressive (“hypo” meaning low and “pressive” meaning pressure) breathing technique was originally created by Marcel Caufriez to help post-natal women heal from pelvic floor dysfunction in a clinical setting. In 2006, Piti Pinsach and Tamar Rial, experts in the technique, began to teach the method as a preventative measure to a wider population. In Low Pressure Fitness the diaphragmatic breathing and the hypopressive apnea is paired with postures and poses designed to stretch and lengthen the bodies internal facia.

Hypo-what?

Traditional exercises that target the “core”, are all “hyper-pressive” in nature, meaning they increase pressure in the abdominal, thoracic, and pelvic cavities. Too much pressure or mismanaged pressure in these cavities can result in injury and dysfunction. Hypopressive training is a tool that not only helps train the true dynamic nature of the core, but also treats pelvic floor dysfunction and can prevent it from happening in the first place.
